PDP responds to Ortom’s invitation from the EFCC and praises his demeanour

The former governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has been praised by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for voluntarily submitting to questioning by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding his eight years in office.

After an invitation from the anti-graft organisation, the former governor arrived at the EFCC office in Makurdi at around 10 am on Tuesday.

In a statement released in response to the development, the Benue State PDP praised the former governor for appearing before the commission without animosity.

The ex-governor Ortom visited the EFCC office in Makurdi earlier today to accept the commission’s invitation. According to the statement, “Our great party celebrates his behaviour as exemplary and reflecting the clarity of conscience.”

“The former governor’s action also demonstrates that he is a man of his word because it satisfies promises he made while in office, including that he would be prepared to give an open account of everything he did in carrying out the mandate given to him as governor by the Benue electorate, at the conclusion of his term.

While it won’t be the first time a former governor appears before the anti-graft panel, the PDP observes that Ortom’s situation is unusually unique due to the lack of hostility and acrimony that typically accompanies such appearances.

The party is confident that Ex-Governor Ortom’s actions demonstrate that he has no hidden sins that he should be hiding from because “only the guilty typically are scared,” according to the saying.

“We implore other public officials to follow the Ortom norm by carrying out their tasks and responsibilities while in office within the bounds of the law so they may come to create an account when required without any worry,” the statement reads.

The former governor, who was scheduled to leave the EFCC Makurdi Zonal office at 5:15 p.m. at the time of this report, was still inside.
