Gusau, the Super Eagles’ new coach, is a farce. – Mr. Orumen

The Nigeria Football Federation dropped another bombshell last week, Ibrahim Gusau, President of the Nigeria Football Federation, leaked his board’s strategy for finding a new coach for the Super Eagles.

Gusau stated that the next coach of the Super Eagles will be determined by Nigerians, despite a dysfunctional technical committee and a subservient head of the technical department.

In an interview with Radio Now 95.3 FM, the NFF president expressed confidence that Nigerians will lead them to the best coach available for the Super Eagles. Gusau stated that he will let football fans decide whether or not to keep Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro.

“We have that plan to put it in front of Nigerians, to hear their views,” the NFF boss said, sounding unsure and inadequate of his office and its responsibilities. We will certainly put it to the public to hear their thoughts on whether we should keep Peseiro (current Super Eagles coach) or fire him.”

“We are still going to push the question of hiring a foreign or indigenous coach to Nigerians,” he added. We will solicit their opinions, consider them, and then make the decision that we are supposed to make as a board.”

Sports Vanguard’s Patrick Omorodion criticised the process that resulted in Gusau’s election as NFF President.

“When I saw Gusau’s statement, the first thing that came to mind was that Amaju Pinnick foisted on Nigeria a football president who lacks the ability to turn our football around,” Omorodion said. “What blueprint did Gusau bring with him?” Nothing.”

The onus of hiring a good coach for the national team, according to Harrison Jalla, Chairman of the Special Task Force of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria, is on the Nigeria Football Federation. “The NFF’s responsibility is to hire and fire coaches, not Nigerian Football fans,” he said.

Jalla has some words of wisdom for the NFF president. “The NFF should use Peseiro’s large monthly salary to train indigenous coaches and hire them as national team coaches.” Let us have faith in and value what we have.“
