The Nigerian Army will beef up security operations, according to the GoC

Maj-Gen Olufemi Akinjobi, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Nigerian Army, says the army has adopted realistic training that will improve its operations against insecurity.

On Monday in Kaduna, the GOC stated this at the 1 Division Operation planning cadre for officers within the 1 Division Area of Responsibility.

The five-day training brought together participants ranging in rank from Captain to Colonel from the 1 Division’s area of responsibility.

According to Akinjobi, the workshop was organised to refresh personnel on various aspects of the operations planning process in order to improve their skills and capacity in single and joint service operations planning processes.

“In line with the Chief of Army Staff vision, which is a professional Nigerian Army ready to accomplish assigned Missions within a joint environment in Nigerian defence,” Akinjobi said.

According to him, warfare has become more complex as the nature of threats has changed and technology has advanced.

He went on to say that armies all over the world are constantly engaged in training and capacity building in order to meet emerging security challenges.

“The NA recognises these changes as well and, as a result, seeks to develop capacity through realistic training that will improve its operations,” he said.

Akinjobi stated that the 1 Division’s experiences in Birnin Gwari, Falgore, Kagara, and other forests, as well as other experiences in the division’s other areas of operations, had helped in gaining useful lessons and identifying gaps in their operations.

He stated that the 1 division operations planning cadre for 2023 was expected to investigate ways to build on the Division’s existing efforts to meet its operational needs in the areas of warfare and operations planning, military decision making process, intelligence preparation of the battle space, and logistics in operational planning, among other things.

He urged the participants to keep an open mind in order to get the most out of the Cadre.

The GOC thanks the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya, for providing resources for this Cadre as well as his exemplary and inspiring leadership, support, and motivation to this Division, which has also contributed to our operational successes thus far.
