Jeff Bezos Set To Eradicate Death And Help Humans ‘Live Forever’
Fabenmedia Nigeria reports that Jeff Bezos, the world’s richest man, is said to be investing on anti-aging technology that might increase the average human lifetime by 50 years.
Bezos is rumored to be one of several billionaires who have invested in Altos Labs, a Silicon Valley tech startup developing experimental – and potentially deadly – new life extension technology.
Hundreds of scientists from prominent universities have been enlisted by the new company to study how cells age and how to reverse the process.
This “reprogramming method” aims to mend and restore normal cells by returning them to a “primitive” stem cell state, similar to how cells operate when a person is born.
Juan Carlos Izpisua Belmonte, a Spanish scientist, is one of those hired. He is well-known for his controversial work combining human and monkey embryos, and he believes he can increase life expectancy by 50 years.
When Belmonte tested his findings on living mice, they showed symptoms of age reversal, although some animals acquired lethal teratomas.
Altos Labs aims to continue this and other studies until it is able to reverse ageing in all parts of the body, although it could take decades before the technologies are ready for human testing.
After previously investing in anti-aging business Unity Biotechnology, Bezos is known to have been interested in the sector for some time.
“Staving off death is a thing you have to work at… if living things didn’t work actively to prevent it, they would inevitably melt into their environment, and cease to exist as autonomous entities,” Bezos wrote in his final letter to Amazon shareholders.
